Explain Cache
The cache in TrackMania is where all the custom content is saved. When a player have a custom car, you download it, and it will be put in the cache folder, so you dont need to download it again.
Changing Cache location in TMU
In earlier versions if TM the cache folder was located in the main game folder under GameData. This has been changed in TMU and is located now in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TrackMania United\Cache
This is not always an optimal place because the cache can become quite big and not all people have a large system partition. Unfortunetlly Nadeo has not given an option to change the location of the cache and this section will explain a way to change the location of it.
Making a junction point (symlink) in Windows 2000, Windows XP
This is only recommended for experienced users!
The way to to do this is by making a junction point (symlink).
There are a few requirements that has to be met before you can do this.
1. Your C:\ has to be a NTFS 5 partition.
2. The folders you want to junction has to be empty and already created.
There are alot of different programs that you can use I have chosen Junction Link Magic
Once you have downloaded, installed and started the program it will scan you computer for existing junction points. Once it's done click the "Create..." button.
In the left window you select the empty TMU cache and in the right you select the folder you want the files to be saved to.

In this case I have made a folder called Cache in my TMU GameData folder. To mimic older versions of TM. If everything is ok you should see the green ok signs under the left window. Go ahead and click "Create" once you have selected you folders.

If you have done like I have you should see the junction point to the left pointing to the cache folder in you game directory.
You can now close the program.
Once you start playing the game you will still see files in your my documents cache folder BUT these are not really there. It only shows you the files that are actually in your cache folder in the GameData directory. If your now convinced start the game and look if the amount of empty space gets smaller on C:\
