Freestyle
FreeStyle tracks
FreeStyle tracks have a striking resemblance with Tony Hawk (skateboard), Dave Mirra (extreme bmx) and other games of this type where performance of tricks, figures and stylish jumps are a priority and points are scored for doing so.
On FreeStyle tracks, blocks are organised in such a way that the driver can perform their skills as an artist who is able to manipulate his vehicle in mid air so that points can be obtained for completing a set of creative maneuvres.
Different than the press forward or time addict tracks that also employ creative track design but are liniar in nature, FreeStyle tracks usually are made in Stunts mode. The track is constructed in a non liniar park-like way and the driver will have a predefined amount of time to roam this track and perform as much stunts as possible to end up with the most points at the end.
[edit] History
Freestyle track types were conceived by users within the TrackMania Community during the first 6 months of the life of the Original TrackMania (2003-early-2004). Especially the speed environment was suitable to make such tracks.
Back then, the tracks had to be built in a half-linear way because there was still no stunts mode and you needed to cross checkpoints and the finish to complete the race. But the content of the tracks were the same as they are nowadays.
The conception of FreeStyle track and its peaking popularity after 2005 made Nadeo decide to build a special stunts mode for their TrackMania Originalnd TrackMania Sunrise: eXtreme updates in order to facilitate a sense of distinction between the typical racing tracks and stunt/freestyle tracks, and to enable special dedicated FreeStyle clans to make online network games out of it.
