Redirections are used to handle various possible ways to spell an article title.

Definition

When searching for an article its title is used to find it. This title must be simple and clear. But in many cases alternate titles are possible.

For example: "TMO", "TrackMania Original", "Trackmania original", "tmo", and "TM Original", are all possible titles for one article.

In our example, the article is TrackMania Original. Using redirects it's possible to make alternative titles automatically redirect people to the actual article. After finishing an article, you should try to find any possible alternative spellings and create redirects for them.

Usage

The best way to find good redirects to create is to try find an article using the Go button. (This button doesn't search for the word(s) you typed, but opens the article with the exact same name, if it exists.) If you don't get the article you were looking for, a redirect is missing (or perhaps the actual article doesn't yet exist).

To create a redirection, simply click on the create this page red link after using the Go button. You are now in the edit form to create the redirect. To actually create it, type the following string, using the real article title between the double brackets:

#REDIRECT [[article title]]

After you've saved, you can see the redirect. Now test again the search, you should get to the article without getting to the search result page.

Good behaviour rules

You are reminded to always follow them.
