MenTiz: Passion for Gaming

Introduction

MenTiz is an semi-professional organization with an interest in multiplayer games and e-sports. Our concept of a stable community with realistic goals has caused numerous people to join and share their passion for gaming.

Foundation

During the late fall of 2006, more specifically in October, MenTiz opened its doors for players from all over the world to offer a stable home. At the backbone are two cornerstones. The secundary cornerstone a list of norms and values; which are meant to filter the passionate, honoust and dedicated gamer. The primary cornerstone being stable and dedicated management.

» Primary Cornerstone: management

With the habit of teams vanishing as quickly as they emerge, organisations losing control and the financial difficulties of running a gaming organisation, MenTiz needed to plan ahead of time to come up with a flexible outline for a community to grow in any direction.

The application of a divisional structure delegates a lot of day-to-day organisation away from management; creating opportunities for her to focus on long term goals and work on improving the overall quality of the community.

Additionally MenTiz aims at financial independence from third parties. As such, MenTiz runs its own servers (currently) on 2 dedicated servers colocated on the proserve network in Amsterdam. Part of our bandwidth is sponsored by our colohost Clanhost.

In order to express a high level of independance, stabilisation and direction MenTiz has been registered at the Dutch chamber of commerce around September of 2007.

» Secundary Cornerstone: norms and values

Important for our organisation is to have loyal, passionate, honoust and respectful members. The criteria for selection can be experienced as harsh, but in the end are to ensure integrity of MenTiz.

Loyalty requires our members to dedicate their efforts for MenTiz, be only member of MenTiz and attempt to make the best of their membership. Passion asks our members to be able to talk about their game or about gaming in general with a clear passion. Honousty is demanded to ensure our members will provide feedback about the organisation, their team, division or anything else without barriers. With honousty also fair play is concerned; which is a high priority. Respect is an obligation; towards fellow members, competitors and management. Those who cannot behave with dignity are seen as a blemish for the MenTiz image.

Goals

During the startup fase of the MenTiz organisation a list of goals had been setup by Daniël “Luceos” Klabbers to ensure that, even when he'd go inactive, progress could be made. The short term list for June '07 included having at least 25 members, extending senior management to 4, having one performance team for each division, register at the chamber of commerce and getting our first dedicated server as our property. All of these goals had been completed way before the deadline.

The list of long term goals in the original document spoke of a 5 year period (2011) and mentioned having at least 50 members, extending management to at least 1 for each 10 members, having at least 3 dedicated servers in MenTiz property, keep supporting the game scene and remain a home for members to enjoy and share their passion for gaming. As this list includes some really abstract goals and we currently have around 70 members, the decision was made to make the management chairman responsible for maintaining and ensuring the execution of a private list of goals.

The current short term plans include a public & private webshop for hardware, software and merchandise, recruiting performance teams for the most recent competition games and finding new sponsors.
