Stunt Mode

From TM Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Stunt mode was first introduced as part of the Extreme expansion pack for Trackmania Sunrise and as part of the Original expansion pack for Trackmania. It is also included in Trackmania United.

In Stunt Mode you have to score by performing stunts with the car within a given time. You can always finish early, but if you take longer as the given time, penalty points will be substracted from your final score.

The Stunt mode is not very famous at all, so there are not very much Stunt teams. Stunting is most famous in France and Germany.

The most popular Environment for Stunting is Bay.

Scoring

  • Most stunts involve air turns (rotation), which is counted by the game in degrees, e.g. an Aerial 900 (degrees) is worth more points than an Aerial 360 (degrees) and so on. It is not exactly clear where the upper limit is, however 1980 degrees rotation - may be even above - is possible, but surely not in every environment for every stunt.
  • Any stunt scores higher if performed by the book. The game will prefix the stunt's actual name with 'Straight' or 'Master' depending on how well it was performed. E.g. a 920 degrees Aerial is still an Aerial 900 to the game, but it is neither a Straight Aerial 900 nor a Master Aerial 900.
  • Chained stunts will score higher than their parts performed one by one.

Overview of the Stunts

X, Y and z axis
  • Aerial: A vertical jump with the car spinning in the direction of the jump.
  • Alley Oop: A vertical jump with the car spinning against the direction of the jump. Spinning backwards up a ramp.
  • Backflip: A backward basic turn around the x-axis of the car. One of the three basic stunt moves, see also Roll and Spin.
  • Basic Jump: A simple hop over a ramp or edge without any air turn.
  • Basic Wreck: A basic jump not finished properly on the wheels, e.g. landed on the side of the car.
  • Corkscrew: A stunt involving movement on two axis', a combination of Roll (z axis) and Flip (x axis). [Not sure, needs proof] To do ...
  • Flip: A forward basic turn around the x-axis of the car. One of the three basic stunt moves, see also Roll and Spin.
  • Flip Flap: A combination of Flips with every second one out of line by a twist. Happens when you don't start the stunt fully centered towards the obstacle.
  • Flipping Mix: Everything which is neither a clean Flip nor a Flipping Wreck. It would usually include a drift towards another axis.
  • Flipping Wreck: A flip or series of flips not finished properly on the wheels, e.g. landed on the roof of the car.
  • Free Style: Everything which involves turning the car at least 180 degrees around at least one axis, which does not fit into another category.
  • Rodeo: A stunt involving movement on two axis', a combination of Spin (y axis) and Flip (x axis). [Not sure, needs proof] To do ...
  • Roll: A left or right basic turn around the z-axis of the car. One of the three basic stunt moves, see also Spin and Flip.
  • Rolling Madness: Everything which is neither a clean Roll nor a Rolling Wreck. It would usually include a drift towards another axis.
  • Rolling Wreck: A roll or series of rolls not finished properly on the wheels, e.g. landed on the side of the car.
  • Spin: A left or right basic turn around the y-axis of the car. One of the three basic stunt moves, see also Roll and Flip. No brainer.
  • Spin Off: A spin started bumping off an obstacle. [Not sure, needs proof] To do ...
  • Spinning Chaos: Everything which is neither a clean Spin nor a Spinning Wreck. It would usually include a drift towards another axis.
  • Spinning Wreck: A spin or series of spins not finished properly on the wheels, e.g. landed on the side of the car.
  • Twister: A stunt involving movement on two axis', a combination of Roll (z axis) and Spin (y axis). [Not sure, needs proof] To do ...

There are also some movements of the cars, which are basically stunts, but which are not recognized by the game. One example for this is the "Lap Dance", which is merely possible with the standard car in the stadium environment: The car spins on its front wheels with the rear up to the air. That's called "Freestyle" by Stunters doing that.

Media Tracker Considerations

The MT for stunt scores is broken in Trackmania United. There is an "Interface" type of media track, which is meant to enable/disable several textual messages in the replay. However this does not work at all like it should and you need to add the "Interface" type of media track after the replay has been recorded to actually see it.

In other words if you want to see which stunt figures were driven in a replay and how much those scored, you need to open the replay in the replay editor and add a "Interface" track over the whole time. You can disable all options for "Interface", but make sure that "Stunt Figures" is checked. Save the replay and watch it again, now with all stunt figures and scores presented to you in textual form too.
